I know it's already been mentioned, but you can mount weapons on them. I
like how the Nu Gundam has small missals mounted on the bottom of the
shield. Also I was thinking, in 0083, the use E-Caps (I think) to power
their beam rifles. They could keep a few extras hidden by the left hand,
protected from stray shots by the shield (it would suck if one got hit and
exploded), and it would also be easier to grab in the middle of a fight. The
only other logical place to keep them would by the hips, but then you run
the risk of a stray shot taking out the whole mobile suit.
