Subject: [gundam] Bandai 2001 Release Schedule

Nifty.
About.com's Toy Fair 2001 coverage is listing release dates, along with some
other nifty info.
I've cut'n'pasted the relevent bits below for those of you who don't want to
fire up a webbrowser, but hit
http://actionfigures.about.com/hobbies/actionfigures/library/tf01/bltf01-gun
dam.htm if you want the full meal deal.
For those of you who don't want to wade through the nittygritty, the summary
is that we'll be seeing the toys starting in April and the models starting
in March (i.e. this month). Keep your eyes peeled.

Before that though, what can we infer from this info? The Wing model kits
were released before the show started airing, AFAIK. Looks like they're
doing the same thing, except they've got an advantage in that people already
know the Gundam brand. Kids are going to be picking up this stuff and saying
"hey, I don't remember this from Wing", building up hype for MSG when it
airs. Kids will already have some idea of what's going on which is
definately a good thing.

So, any comments?

On the model front:
Basically nothing we haven't seen before ... except ... the dates! The
Original Gundam kits will begin shipping in March ... which is ... THIS
MONTH! Too damned cool. Supposedly everything will be shipping between
March and June.
The pricepoints are also mentioned, and, IMHO, are a little high. $14.99 USD
for HG and HGUC kits seems a bit much ... I mean, these are predominantly
1000 yen kits, right? Many of which are over 10 years old ... thats kinda
hard to swallow. Still, being able to walk down to your local Wal Mart,
plunk down $15 and walk away with a 1/144 Zaku II. ... such is the price of
convenience, I guess.

On the toy front:

The prices for the toys, however, is spectacular. Below yen cost (Albeit
without the fancy packaging, extra hands, and panel lines) makes these
_very_ attractive. I can't wait =)
