Just to point out. The United States is the Philippines' biggest trading
partner - which counts for economic intervention in some way neh? They are
also one of the biggest providers of aid alongside the Japanese and we have
a lot to be thankful because of it. If it weren't for these economic avenues
for our wares - I really think we'd be in a worse situation. Compare us to
countries like North Korea and Burma and we are better off.
I don't know how EZ8 defines "economic intervention" - but you shouldn't
presume that it has anything to do with the "imperialist" United States that
seems to be etched on to the minds of activists. Besides the 70s was between
Marcos and the opposition elements. Marcos was exceptional enough to garner
and wield support on his own to rule the nation for 2 decades and didn't
really need the CIA's help.
Only the Magsaysay presidency became an actual American puppet government
here - giving unparalleled concessions to American interests. Ironically, it
was also one of the most economically prosperous times in the Philippines.
Of course there's always reason to be vigilant in dealing with any foreign
country - but there's no reason to take offense unless you hear their
