Mark posted his latest bit of artistic wizardy, his kickass take on the
G-Savior (which I'm liking more and more as time goes on ... even moreso
than the Turn A, the slightly odd design grows on you).
Now both Mark's synopsis and Amuro's review at Gundam.com mention the
"Illuminati" as the name of the resistance group fighting for the colonies
against Earth. Seeing as I've recently become Illuminated (Hail Eris! All
Hail Discordia!) after reading the Illuminatus Trilogy, the Schrodinger's
Cat Trilogy, and the Principia Discordia, I found this to be a quite
interesting development.
In the Illuminatus! Trilogy (A positively brilliant and life changing book
by Robert A. Wilson and Robert Shea), one of the central themes is the fight
between the Discordians (follower of the Greek Goddess of Chaos and Discord,
Eris Discordia) and the Illuminati, a secret organization that has existed
for thousands of years and essentially controls much of the world. This is
nothing new in itself, the Illuminati have been mentioned countless times as
a global conspiracy, but whats of note here is the Discordians as the "good
guys" fighting against them.
In G-Savior we seem to have a role reversal with the Illuminati being the
good guys trying to free themselves from oppression ...
I wonder if this was intentional, or just some case of cool word borrowing?
Either way, a neat bit of synchronisity (Goddess works in myserious ways...)
and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie to find out if there are any
Illuminati symbols or references...
On a related note, any other disciples of Eris on the GML? Surely I'm not
the only proud Discordian on the list ;P Rub-a-dub-dub. O Hail Eris.
