I don't know the story's explaination, but I read in this month's Animerica
that the large size and bright color schemes are a result of pressure from
Bandai to aid in toy sales, with the assumption that a radical departure
from the prior giant robots would be commercially risky for a toy.
PS , When is the new Animerica Gundam Special Ed. going on sale? (Anyone)
