I've heard of them. They used to be a staple in those old guitar mags I used to read. Theses old 70's groups, especially the jazz-fusion types use various broken chord patterns and scalar transitions that can really make your head spin. Music is like physics you see, it follows a certain 
logic. The old ones bend those rules so much that its hard to keep track.
