I would say yes. These 3 books were my first exposure to the Gundam
universe, and after reading them I was somewhat disappointed with the
three movies when I finally got to see them. I thought the premise of
Armuro being in the military much more plausible rather than him being a
boy who happens to get into a robot his father invented during an enemy
attack. It wasn't until I finally go to see the original series in its
entirety that I really began to like Gundam animation. I'm very interested
to see what For The Barrel does with these books as a foundation.

So if you can find them, pick them up.
