er..."horny" !?
> 9.The enemy mech changes every episode
well, it's not known as monster-of-the-week genre for
nothing. :)
> 10.Enemy is absolutely evil.
erhm...well, not really.
the enemy is commonly divided among 2 dominant
factions. one is of the ruthless overlord (usually
presiding back home, in another sector of space), and
the other is of the honorable general sent to conquer
earth.
there will be a few episodes where squabbling,
scheming and plotting among the enemy ranks saves the
heroes from sure defeat.
also, one of the more common motives of the alien
invasions seems to be to find a new home for the
aliens whose world is dying. either that or colonial
expansion.
> 11.The mechs have only melee weapons (or
> short-range)
well, a huge amount of the armament of the hero robot
is composed of ridiculous melee weapons stowed all
over the robot's body. (danguard ace is the only bot
i can think of that doesn't go over the top with the
weapons...spartan javelin, photon punch, pulsar
cannons...and a 500 ton kick, that's it :P)

and it flies. :D

>
"no maintenance" isn't how i'd put it. the
maintenance issue only crops up when it's convenient
to the plot. to show the enemy gaining the upper hand
now and then, a teamwork crisis is thrown in along
with maintenance issue.
but, no matter how beat up the hero bot is (like a
gaping hole through the midsection), he'll always pull
off his signature finishing move. :)
