I'm not sure what you mean by this -- the Del Rey editions of the three Gundam
novels translated by Frderik L. Schodt from the Yoshiyuki Tomino originals are
as official as it gets. Not only that, but any other English translations of
the Gundam novels would be considered not only to be unofficial but also
illegal, as Ballantine Del Rey still holds the English language rights.
To date, the dismal failure of the Del Rey novels in the American market,
compared to their more successful Robotech original novelizations by Brian Daley
and James Luceno, writing as Jack McKinney, have them disinclined to reissue the
books, despite the runaway success of Gundam Wing. Or maybe because of it --
Gundam failed, in part, because it wasn't Robotech and, whatever you may think
of the translation, was written in a style quite different from the "McKinney"
books. If people buy the original Gundam novels expecting it to be like Gundam
Wing, they'll be just as disappointed as Robotech fans who bought the Gundam
novels back when.
I've written Ballantine Del Rey on a number of occasions, most recently the 20th
anniversary of Gundam, pointing out that times (and the market) have changed,
that anime is more mainstream and that it's time to try again. No luck so
far -- once burned, many times shy. So shy, in fact, that they backed down on a
reissue of the novels that was to have coincided with the release of the Gundam
0083 Sunris Film Comics by Viz back in 1993. The first full-page ads had a line
"Be sure to read the Gundam novels" that disappeared after the first run.
The release of the original series next year, if as successful as Wing, will go
a long way to change that and, in fact, BDD may be waiting to do a simultaneous
release. Then again, maybe not -- the Forthcoming Books list didn't show
anything as far out as June 2001.
So your only recourse is to find the three Del Rey books. many will steer you
to eBay, but in my opinion your best bet is online used-book stores. Here's
what I found just typing "Gundam" into the Title Search field at Bibliofind
<http://www.bibliofind.com>:

Standard Postage in the U.S. Included. (UR#FP1721) Offered for sale by
Interstellar Overdrive at US$17.50
Prices vary widely and, as you'll note, Book III is much rarer than Books I and
II, but had I been placing orders this morning I could've had all three for
$27.27 plus whatever postage might accrue.
I was also surprised to find, for the first time, other Gundam books being
listed here:
* Mobile Suit Gundam ; Excel/Excel SC/DJ b&w and color illus, corners and edges
bumped, chipped - dustjacket lightly rubbed, soiled Illustrated BOOKNUM048472I
Offered for sale by Book City at US$35.00
I have no idea which of the myriad Gundam books this might be.
* Gundam Sentinel: The Battle of the "Real Gundam" ; Excel/Excel SC/DJ b&w and
color illus and photos, corners and edges of cover bumped - dustjacket lightly
rubbed Fantasy Art BOOKNUM050496I Offered for sale by Book City at US$75.00
This, of course, is the highly prized Gundam Sentinel book. It's because the
description of this book is so similar to the Gundam book above that I can't
place the former. None of the paperback novels has a dustjacket, so it must be
one of the many, many Japanese books.
* Yoshida. T.: : MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM 00838: CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE. ; Viz Comics,
1994 50pp large octavo, with many color illustrations throughout, color
illustrated softcovers, mint, a sunrise animation film comic. Order ref: 50568.
Offered for sale by RAREBOOKS at US$20.00
This isn't really a book at all, but comics are often listed on Bibliofind by
dealers who sell both books about comics and comics themselves. This is Volume
8 in the 13-volume series and corresponds to the OAV episode titled Conspiracy
Sector.
* Tokita, Koichi: GUNDAM WING 1 ; LPC GROUP +, TRADE PAPER, SALE BOOKS,
G-N-MANGA, (UR#:16-1892213419-0) Offered for sale by Powells Books at US$6.50
* Tomino Yoshiyuki: GUNDAM BLUE DESTINY ; LPC GROUP +, TRADE PAPER, SPECIAL NEW,
G-N-MANGA, (UR#:1-1892213109-1) Offered for sale by Powells Books at US$10.50
No explanation needed for either of these, which have apparently been on the
American market long enough to turn up in the secondhand stores.
