I believe there was a mail on this...in any case, I intended them for use as
precision weapons.

At this close range, any pilot worth his or her salt could destroy the thing
already.

I didn't say useful, I said able to use funnels and bits. ^_^ Remember, with
their power boosted by bio sensors and psychoframes, even weak NTs can be
formidable.

As I said, use augmentation systems. You could also create Enhanced Humans,
or set up Newtype labs like Kishiria did.

You're forgetting one important system - telescoping. Not only have I seen
this in Gundam, it stands to reason that by UC timelines, telescoping
technology has gotten a lot better.

Simple touch sensor - I don't see the problem.

Well, since I have seen pilots dodge *incoming* bolts a couple of times, I'm
of the opinion that beam weapons are actually much slower than you
think...come to think of it, hasn't the White Base or a similar agile vessel
also dodged incoming beam fire?
