Dunno, maybe they were using beam weapons to detonate the explosives? Of
course there was also the factor of Col. Lyer who wanted an "accident" to
happen. Maybe there was no threat at all except one fabricated by Lyer. He
probably circulated around rumors that the reactors could blow up in the
mine shaft so that anything he did could not be pointed out as his fault.
Kojima was nice enough even to "warn" him, even if he was planning on
sacrificing a few "pawns" to get the job done.
