Well, technically speaking, "metastasis" refers to any change of position,
state, or form, but it's generally used only in medicine, to describe the
transfer of a disease-producing agency (as a cancer) from the site of the
disease to another part of the body. This is the first time that I've ever
heard the term applied to linguistic transpositions.
