Subject: [gundam] Role of Warships in UC: Was: I-Fields..

But you are expecting the ship to actually aim and hit the enemy ships -
in most the UC Gundam I have watch, all battleships and carrier try to stay
just at the range of its weapon, so it can provide support fire to its MSes
and resupply the MS, if necessary. At such a long range, nobody really
expect the battleship to hit the target. If they actually hit it, the better
for them. With the high interference from Minorsky particle, you expect the
battleship to actually hit the enemy fleet, when you can barely see it?

Before the MSes became really popular in war use, battleship is used for
offensive, but after MS became so cheap and better, battleships are really
outclassed most of the time, and with the Minorsky particle all around,
battleship just cannot provide good offense most of the time, simply because
they miss so much...

But it also take forever to take if down ^_^

Yes, but White Base is basically the marines - they are design to be
mobile and carry the state of the art MS for specific mission. They aren't
the navy or army, who do most of the fighting...

Are you sure about that? Other than the first Gundam series, I don't
remember seeing any battleship that doesn't carry MS - all of them can carry
at least a few of them, as the battleship cannot protect itself against MS
attack.
I am you are partially missing my point - I am NOT saying battleship are
useless in warfare, but their main purpose in war is to carry MS to
battleship, resupply its troops, and provide cover fire, not trying to
destroy the enemy's fleet. It's like carrying hunting rifles to fight when
the enemies are already close to you - by the time you fire, the target will
move away already...
I think you are "too sure" of the battleship's offensive role in the
wars - I just think that with the Minorsky particle and that most of the
time you can barely see the target, most ships cannot properly aim to be
really effecitve...
