Ding, ding, ding ding! We have a winner! My time working at an anime
localization company, taught me that 90% of the problem is exactly
what you mention. Several of the voice actors are fine actors, when
properly directed, and after studying the part, but for the most part
they are poorly directed, and practically doing a cold read! This is
why you get such flat or stereotypical readings of most of the parts.
