Yes. In fact, an "omake" (extra) segment on one of the 08th MS Team videos
stated that Char was able to "sink" five battleships in part because of his
technique of make a "touch and go" landing on one ship and using the springboard
effect to "jump" toward another -- ping! ping! ping! Ricochet Comet!

Yes, an MS can boost to engagement velocity on its own, but why expend valuable
propellant just to get to the battlefield when the ship can lob you there with
all of your fuel intact?
That fuel could make the difference between getting back alive and becoming just
another piece of orbital debris. Compare the cost of a catapult to the cost of
an MS and its pilot, to say nothing of its fuel -- propellant isn't free and,
over time, expenditures add up.
