Where did you read/hear this?
 The Turn X is a cool mecha(One of Syd's better designs) but it doesn't
really look that much like a main character Gundam. I mean, a main Gundam at
least must have two eyes, something remotely resembling a V-fin(Turn A's
mustache was sort of a V-fin) and of course, the familiar blue/red/yellow
color scheme. The only one that's really broken the latter rule is the
double X, but the original X had the familiar color scheme....

I don't know, myself, whether it was successful or not, but the fact that
the
next planned Gundam series is entitled "Turn X" seems an interesting
pointer,
IMHO.
