I would consider it mecha- why not?
I think it was someone from honda's robot division that said his goal
was to make a team of humanoid robots that could beat the world's cup
championship team at soccer by 2050.
Here another robot project that really impressed me.

It's a tele-operated robot built to replace humans in space. Very
