Back in 1962, there was a British SF series using puppets
("Supermarionation") called Fireball XL-5. The nose of the eponymous
rocket ship separated into a shuttle cum landing craft called Fireball Junior.

The same principal applies here, where a section of the Musai separates
into a shuttle cum landing craft called the Child or Baby Musai (Komusai).

Considering the influence that the follow-on British Supermarionation
series Thunderbirds had (and continues to have) in Japan, it wouldn't
surprise me to learn that this was an intentional homage,
