Nanotechnology was pretty much the main theme of the Ultimate Gundam/Devil
Gundam. It has the ability to repair itself, take over other machines into
it's own body, and even alter human beings by using the power of
Nanotechnology.

That's pretty much the reason why that damn gets so freaking big in the
latter half of series :)
