There's no violence in the cartoon version because cartoon in the US are
meant for kids - going back to square one of the thread of anime vs cartoons.
You can't have a dark and complicated theme in a kid's show.
As for the movie, yeah, New Line has a tendency to make a franchise out of a
hit movie and screw everything up in the process. Witness the similar path
taken by the Mortal Kombat movies, the first one was at least entertainingly
decent, but the second one was obviously thrown together to make a quick buck.
Luckily they didn't screw up the Austin Powers sequel.
Totally OT trivia of the day... there's a connection between the Ninja Turtle
movies and Mortal Kombat. Do you know what it is?
