Not quite the same. Both shields are two-piecers, but the connector is what
distinguishes them. The Mk-II's shield has a "slider" (think of it as a
curved ruler) fixed on the bottom half of the shield and slides into the
casing on the back of the top half of the shield. Since the top and bottom
halves are connected by a sliding piece, there are two holes which help the
halves stay in a fixed length instead of sliding up and down.

I see what you mean, personally I prefer the Mk-II's sliding shield over
the GP-01Fb's funky mechanism. They only need to put 2 polycaps for the
holes to make sure they don't get loose from wear and tear and make the
shield lighter (the two rifle clips and the arm connector were probably
what made the shield so heavy).
