Just got the 300 yen "First Grade" RX-78-2 Gundam kit. Wow! A 1/144 kit
with the PG look for 1/40 the cost! And this doesn't suck so bad like
the original 1/144 scale Gundam, or the HG version from 1989!
All parts came on white with a tint of green (not as bad as the MG GM).
No polycaps, no System Injection.
Improvements over the original 1/144 scale Gundam kit:
- additional joint at the arms allows it to curl sideways instead of just
front-ward.
- snap-on assembly, no glue required like before
- a much, much better looking head!
- curved beam saber blade, not a chopstick like before!
- legs have MSV-style split-V connector to the lower torso so the legs
can "split" (though range is very limited)
- shield plugs to the back (can't do this with the old version)
- beam saber handle plugs to the backpack via a ball-joint, perhaps to make
them less prone to dropping/falling when moving the model around.
- details, details, details! Gotta love the panel lines!
What is soooooo scary about this kit: it's designated as FG-01. Does that
mean Bandai is planning to put out more First Grade kits? We've already got
our work cut out (or our wallets empty!) with the MGs and HGUCs!
