Sorry to butt in. The standard gauge is 4' 81/2". Some countries use
narrower gauges [ I believe Japan does, apart from the Shinkansen] The old
Broad Gauge [Great Western Railway (certainly) pre 1923 [and I believe the
change-over was before that] was 7' 1/4"... The gauge for HO [and OO] is
16.5mm [for OO it should be nearer 18...]
