My only problem was that the gears inside the head which controls the
mono-eye's movement would sometimes slip, causing you to be unable to
move the eye back the other way without opening up the head and readjust
the mechanism again.

That's weird... the 2 pieces should be perfectly fine. Check and see if
you had the interior mono-eye mechanism set properly in the right slots.

Be real careful when you put together the conductive cables - those little
tubes have a habit of disappearing if you ever let one of them slip onto the
floor!
