  Which, you'll note, is a rumor devoid of atribution or sourcing (though
nonetheless fun to recount :-). Judging from his interviews, activities,
and comments of the last decade, Tomino is much more excited about Gundam
these days.

  And even ZZ-era interviews indicate that he was trying to do
_something_ with that misbegotten show. In an early B-CLUB, he says he's
trying for the mix of comedy and drama that characterized Mazinger Z and
other early super robot shows. In his early-'90s Animecon appearance, he
said that ZZ was an attempt to balance Z Gundam's grimness, but that in
hindsight they may have overcompensated. Not exactly "Those Bandai
bastards made me do it, damn their eyes!"
