Thanks to Nicholas Pappas, a Saturn enthusiast, I was able to extract the
video portion of the Girens Ambition FMV clips and watch it on my PC (the
sound is still messed up and incomprehensible, and my pleas to Mark Simmons
for some help on the information relayed on the Japanese websites went
unanswered). Anyway, here's what I saw:
<SPOILER ALERT>
Clip 0: Opening CG-animated "demo" with lots of MS action. I believe
SD G Generation's opening FMV clip is a parody of this one since we
have the Kampher clashing beam sabers with the Alex here too.
Clip 1: This is the longest and coolest clip on the disc, basically a prologue
that recounts the first colony drop and the capturing of Gen. Revell.
Char's MS-06S and Ramba Ral's blue MS-05 can be seen in action, I am
not sure if there was a white Zaku II (could be just the glare).
Basically after the colony dropped, EMF launched an assualt of cap.
ships but they were of no threat to Dozul's MS squads. EMF's proud
fleets were soon reduced to space rubbish, and when Gen. Revell's
entry/escape capsule was ready to be launched from the flag ship, the
Black Trinary showed up and you can see defeat on the old man's face.
One thing that seems like a continuity violation was that we saw the
red capital ship from Zion (the same kind Delaz used as his flagship)
several times in the clip, but I thought this ship did not appear until
the latter half of the war, and Zion had nothing but Musai prior to
the appearance of White Base?
Clip 2: This looks like the clip you'd see if EMF wins and Zion loses. At the
beginning we see a bunch of injured Zion soldiers in a space supply
transporter (the one of the type that supplied Char's Musai in the
2nd or 3rd TV episode), then camera shifts to a peace conference
between EMF & Zion, with EMF officials with happy faces and Zions look
bummed after the meeting, and Gen. Revell was making a speech after-
wards.
Clip 3: EMF engineers were playing with a captured Zaku II in a hangar. Gen.
Revell used their report in a presentation for a committee of EMF
bureaucrats in order to convince them that mobile suits are required
for victory (they didn't look too convinced or interested). The last
scene shows an engineer explaining the Zaku II's schematics to a bunch
of scientists/engineers, and when he turns to face us we see Amuro's
dad (who else?!). This seems to suggest that EMF did not commence MS
development until AFTER the Zaku II was in active service (i.e. after
OYW broke out) which appears to be another continuity violation. BTW
the captured Zaku II had its spiked shoulder painted red.
Clip 4: Trial tests of the GunTank, GunCannon, and Gundam on terran environ-
ment, ending with another Gundam trial run in air and space, firing at
dummy targets. Lots of "stock footage" animation can be seen here,
including the ones you see in the TV series OP. Kinda cheezy if you
are an old fan, but you do appreciate the inside joke.
Clip 5: A brief clip of the aftermath of the Zaku pair's attack on Side 7,
then the scene changes to Lunar 2 with the WB crew arguing that they
are newbies and need to let the civilians offboard. Ends with Amuro
in his pilot suit just outside of Gundam. Without the audio track I
really couldn't make out what was going on there.
Clip 6: Amuro jumps into a Core Fighter but then we see Gundam launching into
battle against the Gaw and a ton of Topps. The last shot was of a
landed WB with the Midea next to it, with GunTank & GunCannon standing
guard. Again, without audio I couldn't figure out what was going on.
Clip 7: This looks like the beginning of Operation Odessa, with HLVs and
scenes of Zion MS mobilizing and Ma Kube discussing strategy with his
subordinates and the last scene was of Gen. Revell in his command tank,
guarded by 3 GMs. Note these OYW original GMs now support the 08th MS
Team-style shields (buckers?).
Clip 8: With Zion's earth presence eliminated in Operation Odessa, Ma Kube
bails back to space with some help from HLVs. As Gen. Revell salutes
the EMF soldiers on the ground, Ma Kube receives a transmission in his
Sanzibar cruiser from his master Krishia, who appears much younger and
prettier here than in the TV/movie animation. This is the same woman
who led the "Legitimate Zion" I've mentioned in the past.
Clip 9: Magellans & Salamis ships leaving the EMF Jaburo ship dock for space,
where we see Zion fortifying their defenses in Solomon, ending with
Dozul talking. You see the Bigzam in the background and the red
MS-14B (Johnny Ridden's) in the foreground.
Clip 10:Both sides getting ready for the assault on Abaowaku. Sayla Mass
appears in the MS hanger, standing next to a tired, resting Amuro,
and you catch a glimpse of the space version of GM Command as Gen.
Revell makes a speech to EMF soldiers.
Clip 11:This one reminds me of The 08th MS Team. After an intense battle
took place in space, you see a GM and a Zaku locked into mortal
combat but only the camera was moving - apparently both suits were
badly thrashed and you see the EMF pilot helping the Zion pilot out
as they both walk to safety and stare into the infinite space.
Clip 12:This clip made no sense without a soundtrack; it starts with Zion Zum
Taikum in the center of the shot, with Degin in the background, then
we see Lalah in Side 6 with the swan, then an intense battle between
Amuro in his Gundam with Char in his MS-06S, finally ending with Gen.
Revell making yet another speech in space.
Clip 13:EMF puts its own mirror-based solar ray system in place and proceeds
to literally slice up the cross-shaped asteroid (Solomon?)
Clip 14:Titan arises from the never-ending conflict between EMF & Zion. Both
GM Sniper and GM Cannon made an appearance here.
Clip 15:Giren's making a crowd-pleasing speech (the only one without a happy
face is an injured soldier amongst the civilian crowd in Side 3, whose
face was obscured by a hat) as Gen. Revell arrives, apparently to
negotiate a cease-fire and admitting defeat. I think this is what
you will see if Zion wins in the end.
Clip 16:Giren briefs Zion officers as they prepare the first wave of earth
invasion - I think the drop point was Odessa. Both Ma Kube and
Garma could be seen in this clip.
Clip 17:I think this is the clip you see after Zion successfully makes their
landing on earth during the 1st wave of invasion - we see "arctic"
Zakus wearing weather-protection canvas and Ma Kube coming out from
the Musai capsule, etc. Then Giren hands over a document for Degin
to sign and they had a father-to-son talk, this is probably where
Degin makes the Hitler comparison and starts to realize what a monster
of a son he had.
Clip 18:North America conquered by Zion. Garma holds a parade/review on the
streets of NYC as the ex-mayor looks on with disgust. We see squads
of Desert Zakus in funky colors (deep purple and red), tanks, and
Ramba Ral, Hamon, and a blue MS (not quite a Zaku II but not a Gouf
either...). Hamon was wearing Zion officer outfit. Degin and Krishia
were watching all this on a monitor in their home (and relaxed
clothing) as Garma proudly talked to them over the videophone. Mean-
while, a Zion officer just laid his eyes on "Operation V" intelligence
report for the first time...
Clip 19:Zaku IIs wreck havoc in Side 7, Gundam wakes up & kick some butt!
Clip 20:Intelligence report on WB & its MS's.
Clip 21:WB arrives at Jaburo, unaware of a marine MS that's been following
it...
Clip 22:Delaz & Gato went to Giren with a proposition, this is probably where
they suggest a 2nd colony drop to deal with the stalemate. What does
not make sense is that the 0083 prolog seems to suggest that the
bond/alliance between Delaz and Gato did not form until the final
battle, when Gato boarded Delaz's ship to borrow a RickDom, where
Delaz convinced Gato to save himself for Zion's rebirth. The clip
here suggests that they've had a special relationship way before the
final battle at Abaowaku.
Clip 23:This is probably after the 2nd colony drop. Earth's really messed up
and Cima made a cameo here, she appears much younger and thinner
though. Ends with a strange shot of Zion's Gaw and EMF's Midea in
flight formation?!
Clip 24:Zion's colony-sized solar ray system fired.
Clip 25:Actual 2nd colony drop, ends with a shot of Delaz
Clip 26:Garma's funeral/Giren's Sieg Zion speech: among his audience includes:
- WB crew
- Gen Rev. w/ his officers, with Matilda next to him (proof she's more
than just a supplies corps captain)
- Chris from 0080
- Char sitting in a bar as a civilian
- EMF pilot (main character) from Blue Destiny
- Delaz & Gato
- Ramba Ral & Hamon
Clip 27:Giren making a speech to Zion officers (this looks like it takes place
when "Legitimate" Zion split and challenges his legitimacy).
Clip 28:Giren watches the broadcast of Krishia's speech rallying her officers
under the Legitimate Zion banner
Clip 29:Giren watches the broadcast as Char removed his mask and rallying his
soldiers under the Neo Zion banner. Surprisingly, Lalah was by his
side and alive!
Before you all start e-mailing me for instructions on how to extract the
FMVs for viewing on PC, know that I still haven't figured out how to fix
the audio, and you probably have to have a PC with the 1st build of
Windows 95. Win95B and Win98 will not work.
