Oh there are many successful series, but each book in the series has to be
a certain length (200-400 pgs). Some established writer can sneak in a
longer one, and movie books (Starship Troopers, say) can be shorter. Many
a great books (the first Sherlock Holmes book The Sign of Four (?) was too
short, The Fellowship of the Ring was too long) suffered a long gestation
period only because of the length of the book.
Anyway we digress.
