According to the Entertainment Bibles, UNT stands for United Nation Troops.
It's not the government, but the military. This used to be called the
"EFM" by English-speaking fans, directly substituting English words for the
Japanese "Earth Federation Military" -- a reverse of what just happened
with EFSF!

The same source also parses EUG out as Earth United-nation Government.

Again, please note that "Nation" is singular and denotes a global state.
It's not the United Nations, but a Federal government in which all of the
existing nations have been incorporated as subordinate states.
